Mary Ann (Metzler) Jordan

Mary Ann Jordan, 85, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the OSU Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus. She was born March 28, 1932 in Portsmouth to the late Floyd Lloyd and Edith Levina Cooper Metzler.
   As a teenager, she worked as a soda jerk at the Pan Theater in New Boston and she was a 1950 Glenwood High School graduate. Following graduation, she worked as an operator at the Ohio Consolidated Telephone Company and later at William’s Manufacturing Company. She then attended school to become a nurse’s assistant and worked at Scioto Memorial Hospital.
  Mary Ann had been a member at the former Franklin Avenue United Methodist Church in Portsmouth. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and the family authority on all players’ stats and anything related to Reds’ games.
  She loved singing and had a beautiful voice. While in high school, she sang in the musicals and then in the church choir at Franklin Avenue in the 1960’s. It wasn’t uncommon to hear her break out into song while walking around her house. She also enjoyed spending her free time working jigsaw puzzles.
   Mary Ann was preceded in death January 30, 1995 by her beloved husband of 41 years, Robert William Jordan. They were married December 11, 1953 in New Boston.
   Surviving are her two children, Scott R. Jordan, with whom she made her home, and Patty Ann (Ralph) Scott of Portsmouth; her grandson, Christopher (Abigail) Parish of Portsmouth; two great-grandsons, Quinn Michael Parish and Sean Alexander Little; special nieces, Elaine Shump, Angela Henson, Debbie Sexton, Jennifer Sherrick and their families; and a special friend and caregiver, Mandy Pollard.
   Her brother, David Ewing Metzler, also preceded her in death
