Belinda F. Connally
Belinda Faye “Nennie” Connally, 66, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at SOMC. She was born June 10, 1951 in Virgie, KY, a daughter of the late Hugh Bowen and Donzie Lee Russell Greene, Sr.
Belinda was a member and trustee at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and Missions Leader. She worked at The Counseling Center for more than 20 years and was a pillar in her family, community and congregation.
A 1970 Portsmouth High School graduate and avid reader, Nennie attended Wayne State University. She received an AA in Social Science from Shawnee State University and an AA in Christian Studies from Tri-State Bible College. She felt a strong calling to mentor at-risk individuals and always reminded people to “Keep God First”. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Connally, Sr., whom she married June 7, 1975 in Portsmouth; four sons, Nathaniel Connally, Jr. of Washington Court House, Byron Lamont Greene of Portsmouth, Kenyatta Dwan Connally of Portsmouth and Major (Johnda) Lee Phalan Connally of New Boston; three daughters, Connie (Greg) Huff of Dothan, AL, Starria (Harold, Jr.) Bell of Portsmouth and Cherrolyn Knowles of Southfield, MI; four brothers, Hugh (Cynthia) Greene, Jr. of Portsmouth, Robert Greene of Talbott, TN, Larry (Gail) Greene of Portsmouth and Stacey L. (Cheryl) Greene of Charleston, WV; three sisters, Freddie Kay Greene of Jefferson City, TN, Dondrianna (Mark) VonderEmbse of Westerville and Lynsi Eason of Portsmouth; fourteen grandchildren, Anthony M. White, Brandon, Bryant and Darren Huff, Emmanuel Connally, Tamara Bell, Brian A. Knowles, Kaleb J. and Jerica S. Connally, Aliyah, Jonah and Myah Smith, Lyric Ash, and Ethan D. Connally; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Elder Harold Bell, Jr. officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
