   Michael Lee Bennett, 74, of Wheelersburg, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at SOMC. He was born September 17, 1943 in Columbus, a son of the late Robert Lee and Nola Maxine Skaggs Bennett.

   Mike was the retired owner of the former Mike’s Appliance and TV Discount and was proud to have sold the first microwave oven in Scioto County. A Navy veteran, he was a  member of the American Legion James Dickey Post #23 and Eagles Aerie #4253. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a longtime member of the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce and former Portsmouth Area Retail Merchants Association. A Protestant, Mike graduated from Petersburg (WV) High School.

   Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Jeanette Joseph Bennett, whom he married August 24, 1973 in Maryville, TN. Also surviving are his children, Michael Lee Bennett, Jr. and Michell Elizabeth Counts, both of Portsmouth; a brother, Frank (Brenda) Bennett of Maysville, WV; four sisters, Rose Mary Bennett of Las Vegas, NV, Judy (Randy) Shultz of Hedgesville, WV, Dina Estep of Daytona Beach, FL and Nola (Paul) Lawrence of Middletown, CT; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

   He was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Harrison and Jimmy Gary Bennett; and his son-in-law, David Counts.

   Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Chaplain Larry Moore officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.

   In honor of Mr. Bennett’s service to our country, the flag of the US Navy will fly at the funeral home on Monday.
