Roberta Lou Plymale, 82, of Portsmouth, passed away Tues. May 2, 2017 at SOMC. She was born Dec. 9, 1934 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late James Everett and Myrtle Ethel Seymore Lyons.
Roberta was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a 1952 Portsmouth High School graduate. During World War II she worked as a welder in support of the war effort. Roberta retired from the office of Dr. James Duncan and had also worked at the former Big Bear, Williams Manufacturing Co. and Mercy Hospital. She was also the owner of the former Angelo’s Pizzeria in Bessemer, NC.
Surviving are her children, Richard Emory Plymale and Constance Jarrells, both of Portsmouth; of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Tami Woodruff of Marysville.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her former husband, Roy Charles Plymale on Sept. 23, 1983; a son, Charles David “Bo” Plymale; and siblings, Estel Lyons, Phyllis Rigsby, Juanita Kirsch and Mary Helen Curtis.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Saturday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Elder Craig Gilliland officiating and interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
