Ronald Theodore Linn, 68, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at his home. He was born February 28, 1946 in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late James Aboslen and Amella Mary Acconcia Linn.
   Ron was a retired Staff Sergeant from the US Army, where he served in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He earned many citations, including the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Medical Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Operation Desert Shield/Storm IAW, and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. He was past commander of the James Dickey American Legion Post #23 where he was a member of the 40 & 8 and a former member of the Honor Guard, the Moose Lodge, Rome Lodge #535 F&AM, VFW, Knights of Columbus, and the Disabled American Veterans.
   Ron also retired from the State of Ohio where he had worked as a corrections officer at SOCF. He was of the Roman Catholic faith and he was a 1964 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School. He had attended college in Steubenville and obtained an Associate Degree.
   Surviving are his son, SFC Andrew N. (Rebecca) Linn of Clarksville, TN; two daughters, Kelley Elaine (Michael) Wheeler of Flatwoods, KY, and Shaunacy (Andrew) Powell of St. Cloud, FL; and eight grandchildren, Alexis, Nate, Emiley, Chase, Josey, Morgan, Kaelyn and Averly.
   He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Linn.
   Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm Tuesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Butch Stall officiating and interment in Soldier's Circle at Greenlawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the James Dickey Post Honor Detail.
  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.
