Sylvia Pauline Phelps, 79, of New Boston, passed away Friday, Jan.19, 2018 at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born Feb.22, 1938 in Ohio, a daughter of the late William Estil and Myrtle Pauline Richardson Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband David Lee Phelps in 2010; 2 sons, William Black and David Lee Black; 2 daughters, Lillian Fay Gilbert and Linda Lee Artencio; 4 brothers, Virgil, William, Earl and Bobby Adams and one sister, Tammy Adams.

She is survived by 2 sons; Henry Orvelle Black of Columbus and Edward Estle Black of Portsmouth; 5 brothers, Roger Adams of Waco, TX, John Adams of Colorado, Gary Adams of Portsmouth, Charles Adams of NC, David Adams of Wheelersburg; 4 sisters, Shirley Collett of Portsmouth, Sharon Kay Danuelos of Colorado, Pam Acosta of Houston, TX, Patty Monk of West Portsmouth; 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
