William “Bill” Raymond Wright, Jr., 72, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born in Portsmouth March 27, 1945 to the late Violet Mae Stevens Homer and William R. Wright, Sr.
Bill was a self-employed painter and carpenter and he had attended Shawnee State Community College. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, fishing, walking with his wife and watching wildlife.
Surviving is his wife, Connie Sue Sparks Wright, whom he married March 3, 1980 in West Portsmouth; three sons, J.D. (Kim) Sparks of Chillicothe, Billy Joe Wright of Lebanon and William (Paula) Mollett of New Boston; two daughters, Debbie (Steve) Stone of New Lexington and Tabitha Wright; a brother, Jerry (Carol) Wright of Oklahoma; a sister, Sherry (Charles) Sparks of Kewanee, IL; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Trenda Boyd and Edris Marnann Voorhees; and his stepfather, Larry Homer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with interment in Scioto Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Tuesday.
