Audrey Norene (Gash) Butler

    Audrey Norene Butler, 100, of Piketon, a longtime Portsmouth resident, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at The Pavilion at Piketon. She was born November 18, 1921 in Greenup County, KY, a daughter of the late John and Eliza Davis Gash.

   Audrey was a 1938 graduate of South Portsmouth High School and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She retired from the former Mercy Hospital where she had worked as a receptionist for 20 years.

  She married Huber Maurice “Chuck” Butler in Jackson on May 8, 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 2, 2008.

   Surviving are her children, Alan Rhett (Jan) Butler of Piketon and Karla Underwood of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) McIlhenny, Kristine Butler and Jonathan Butler; four great-grandchildren, Kinslee McIlhenny, Eli McIlhenny, Lincoln Adkins and Sadie Butler; and several nieces, nephews and their families.

   In addition to her parents, Audrey was also preceded in death by seven siblings, Les, Autie, Donald, Marvin and Harry Gash, Irene Stephenson and Esther Stone; and her son-in-law, Timothy J. Underwood.

   Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Darrell Stephenson officiating and interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour Saturday. Masks will be required for all attendees and will not be provided.
