David Raymond Thacker, 78, of Lucasville, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by his family. He was born on February 21, 1948, in Portsmouth to the late Arlene Elizabeth Weaver Speakman and Raymond Homer Thacker.
David attended South Webster Schools and joined the Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a true patriot, who loved his country and respected other veterans. David enjoyed watching the news and western movies on television in his free time. He had a CDL and drove a truck for Glockner Oil for many years.
On August 30, 1974, David wed Brenda Kiser Justice Thacker in Wheelersburg. The couple celebrated 51 years of marriage in 2025.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Brenda; four children, Aaron Nathaniel Thacker of Lucasville, Brooke Joleen (Adam) Toothman of Arvada, CO, and David J. Thacker and Heather Shults, both of TN; two grandchildren, Asher and Bellamy Toothman; a sister, Patricia (Clarence) Ferrell of Jamestown; a sister-in-law, Debby Thacker of Springfield; and two special cousins who David grew up with in the Lyra area, Sandy Grant Ramey and Monna Hester, both of Wheelersburg.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Greg Thacker.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 P.M. on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Friends and family should arrive by 3:45 P.M.
The James Dickey Post #23 American Legion Honor Guard will provide military rites. The flag of the U.S. Army will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. Thacker’s service to our country.
