Delmus Reubin Smith, 91, of Portsmouth, passed away on January 25, 2026, at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born on December 12, 1934, in Portsmouth, to the late Olla Mae Smith Cook.
Delmus was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, and he had worked as a meter reader for AEP for 35 years.
He married the former Janice Louise Nichols in Portsmouth in July 1953. The couple had been married for 67 years at the time of her death on May 12, 2021.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Carmen Carr of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Jamie (Mike Gerard) Smith Hubbard, Brandy Skaggs (Jeremy Skaggs), Lee Carr, Micah Smith, Sr., Gabrielle Smith, Rikki Smith, Stacey Price (Anthony Price), Hannah Smith, Aaron Smith; many great-grandchildren and special great-great grandchildren that loved him very much.
Delmus was also preceded in death by a grandfather, who helped to rear him, Taylor Smith and his grandmother Gussie Smith; two children, Brian Smith and Jill Elaine Smith, a half-brother, Jerry Cook; and a granddaughter, Johanna Smith.
The family will receive friends at Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. The funeral will follow immediately at 1:00 pm with Reverand Richard Jordan officiating.
