Eleanor Jane Ramsey, 86, of Lucasville, died Thursday, March 9, 2023, at University Hospital in Cincinnati from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on February 23, 2023. Jane was born January 5, 1937, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Floyd Warren and Ida Gulker Dever.
She attended Cornerstone United Methodist Church and had been a longtime member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ. She enjoyed bowling in the Friday Senior League and always qualified for the state tournament. Jane also enjoyed playing cards with the girls and she was a gifted singer, having traveled with various choirs through the years.
A 1955 Portsmouth High School graduate, Jane worked for the former Cunningham Oil, then Chabot’s Petroleum as a bookkeeper. She had also worked in Probate & Juvenile Courts for Judge Fowler. Jane was also a member of the former Portsmouth Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
On February 8, 1957, Jane married Charles Frederick “Fred” Ramsey in Portsmouth and they had been married 66 years at the time of his death on March 16, 2022.
Surviving are three children, Charles Dennis (Kathleen) Ramsey of Winter Springs, FL, Sandra Jane Rupp of Ashburn, VA and Marsha Kay Fraley of Waverly; two siblings, David (Jan) Dever of Belpre and Alice (Jerry) Roth of Easley, SC; three grandchildren, Ian Rupp, Abigail Rupp and Aubree Fraley; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Dever McDonel of Brecksville and Jo Ann (Don) Miller of Lucasville.
Jane was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carole Lea Ramsey; a grandson, Gavin Rupp; and five siblings, Richard “Dick” Dever, Christine Hansen, Waneida Barney, Margaret Hover and Doris Ach.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Reverend Tim Roth officiating and interment in South Webster Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 11 A.M. until the service hour.
