Epifanio Ray Martinez, Sr., 75, of Portsmouth, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He was born on January 28, 1950, in Plainview, TX, a son of the late Epifanio Ray and Maria de Jesus Martinez.
Ray was a proud graduate of Texas Tech who dedicated his career to helping others as a Chemical and Substance Abuse Counselor. Outside of work, he cherished time spent fishing, hosting family cookouts, and sharing his love of music as a trumpet player in a mariachi band. He was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are his children, Crystal Renee Martinez of Grove City, James Nieves (Mariah) Martinez of Portsmouth, Epifanio Ray (Marcy) Martinez, Jr. of Williamsport, Judith Martinez Leseburg of Irving, TX, and Julia Martinez Price of Port Isabel, TX; four siblings, Martin Martinez of Lubbock, TX, Mami Diaz of Plainview, TX, Janie Luna of Pampa, TX, and Janie Martinez of TX; and many grandchildren and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings George Martinez and Marcelena Martinez.
A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at a later date.
