George Bee Jewell, Sr.

   George Bee Jewell Sr., 67, of Chillicothe, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born May 8, 1955, in North Fairfield, a son of the late James Orville & Opal Violet Imogene Castle Jewell.

   While living in the Portsmouth area, George was a self-employed auto mechanic and he then worked as a security guard at Red Barn in Chillicothe. He was a huge movie buff, owning well over one thousand titles, and he enjoyed spending his free time fishing and being in the company of his grandchildren.

   On June 3, 1974, he married Mary Jane Blevins Jewell in Olive Hill, KY. The couple had been married for 38 years at the time of her death on February 14, 2013.

   George is survived by three children, Andrea Ruby (Michael) Canter of Chillicothe, Opal Violet Butcher of Jackson and Jessie James Jewell of Chillicothe; three brothers, Charles (Gracie) Jewell of Troy, Delbert Jewell of Lima and Arthur Jewell of Norwalk; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Cody) Belveal, James Spicer, Kelsey Jewell, George Jewell III, Christopher Canter, Michael Canter Jr., Mark Canter and David Butcher; ten great-grandchildren; and his companion, Montenna Mullins of Bucyrus.

   George was also preceded in death by a son, George B. Jewell Jr.; five siblings, Jerry Jewell, John Jewell, Harlen Jewell, James “Lurch” Jewell and Betty Potter; a grandson, Brylan Butcher; and a great-granddaughter, Payton Jewell.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Brian Holbrook officiating and interment in Caroline Cemetery in Flatwoods, KY.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral home Friday.
