Harold E. “Sonny” Cooper Jr., 87, of Portsmouth, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by family. He was born on May 26, 1937, in Portsmouth, the son of the late Evelyn Margaret Malone Cooper and Harold Edwin Cooper Sr.
Sonny retired as the Street Service Supervisor from the City of Portsmouth and he had been a baker at the former Phoenix Pie Company. He was a past president of the Ohio, Kentucky & West Virginia Deaf Association and loved fishing and hunting deer.
Surviving is his daughter, Sharon Lea Cooper (Margaret Vacca) of Olmsted Twp.; his sister, Peggy Vastine of Wheelersburg; his longtime companion, Geraldine Johnson of Ashland, KY; and his beloved nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Cooper; and a sister, Patti Sue Chandler.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, June 14, 2024, in Greenlawn Cemetery with Rick Clark, Minister, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
