Harold “Gib” Cecil Witter, 85, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. He was born October 15, 1937, in Chillicothe, a son of the late Joseph John and Florence Marie Krebs Witter.
Gib was the retired owner of Witter Plumbing and a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. A U.S. Navy veteran and member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local #577, he coached youth sports when his children were young and he enjoyed woodworking in his rare free time. Gib was a 1956 graduate of Notre Dame High School and he loved his time living on the banks of the Ohio River.
Gib is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Lou Crosley Witter. The coupled married in Portsmouth on August 10, 1963.
Also surviving are his children, Brian (Peggy) Witter of Lucasville, Chris (Michele) Witter of West Portsmouth, Curt (Sallie) Witter of Batavia and Amy (Randy Hone) Witter of Portsmouth; one sister, Marilyn J. Walsh of Cottonwood, CA; eight grandchildren, Alexa (Andrew Eldridge), Jacob (Linsey), Wesley, Zane, Abby, Sam and Corey Witter, and Samantha (Austin Fortner) Marting; and two great-grandchildren, Zander Eldridge and Bryer Marting.
Gib was also preceded in death by five siblings, Joseph Eugene Witter, Wilbur C. Witter, Kathryn A. Glynn, Beata Hoodlet and Arlene Haugen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth, followed by interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. The James Dickey Post #23 Honor Guard will provide graveside Military Rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
In honor of Mr. Witter’s service to our country, the flag of the U.S. Navy will fly at the funeral home.
