Hazel Scott, 92, of Portsmouth, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by family. She was born November 25, 1930, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Bertha Ola Carr and Charles Basil Craft.
Hazel was a Christian and attended Wheelersburg schools. A member of the SSU Golden Bears, she was an avid walker & runner, having participated in the annual SSU Bear Run many times and winning medal upon medal. She also enjoyed good times at the casinos, karaoke, and dancing. She was a true “people person” who never met a stranger. To say that Hazel enjoyed her life may be an understatement.
Her husband of 45 years, Clarence Eugene Scott, preceded her in death on May 7, 1995. The couple was married in Portsmouth on September 2, 1950.
Surviving are her three children, James Stanley (Claude Nagamine) Scott of Los Altos, CA, Dorothy Jean (Larry) Justice of Portsmouth, and Barbara Ann (James) McClintic of South Webster; two grandchildren, Larry Justice II and Joshua (Karyn) Justice; two great grandchildren, Stephen (Hilary) Justice and Joseph Justice; and three half-siblings, Charles, Calvin and Diane Craft, all of Portsmouth.
Hazel was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Larry Clifford; four brothers, Homer, Alfred, Kenneth and Arthur Craft; seven sisters, Mary Ramey, Violet Irene Reed, Audrey Bivens, Judy Lowe, Dorothy Klawitter, Shirley Craft and Rose Mearann; her granddaughter-in-law, Buffie Justice; and her great-granddaughter, Stacie Renee Justice.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday, July 10, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Dennis Dawes, Minister, officiating and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from noon until the funeral hour.
Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice, 2201-25th St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.
