Iva Lillian Johnson, 95, of Chillicothe, a longtime Portsmouth resident and formerly of Minford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024, with her loved ones by her side. Iva was born on April 26, 1929, in Barboursville, WV, the daughter of the late Virginia Isabell Eplin Brown Sullins and Oak Lee Brown.
She was a former Licensed Practical Nurse at Logan General Hospital and a skilled homemaker. An excellent seamstress, Iva took great pride in the beautiful flower gardens she tended at her home on Grandview Avenue in Portsmouth. She was awarded the “Good Neighbor Award for Superb Landscaping” from The Flower Garden. Iva had attended the Minford Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years.
On September 18, 1952, she married Glenn E. Johnson in Indiana. The couple was married for 55 years at the time of his passing on February 2, 2008.
Surviving are her sons and their spouses, Gregory and Jovanna Johnson of Minford, and Representative Mark and Kelli Johnson of Chillicothe; two grandchildren, Luke Johnson and Audrey (Will) Haygood; a great-grandson, Jonathon Haygood; her precious little girl, a cat, Shaggy; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Vasco Brown; and two sisters, Hazel Ruth and Evelyn Thompson.
Iva grew up extremely poor but left this world with a lot of rich memories and a good name.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 A.M. at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with John Prose officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Friday.
