Josie Marie (Heisler) Rein

   Josie Marie Heisler Rein, 96, of Portsmouth, died on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Hill View Retirement Center. Josie was born on August 20, 1927, in Cedar Mills, Adams County, Ohio, to the late Jesse Albert and Bertha Lue Bentley Heisler.

   Josie was a 1945 graduate of West Union High School and she worked in the sales of ladies’ clothing for many years in Portsmouth. The greater portion of her work experience was at the former Bragdon’s Department Store and Atlas Fashions. She was a long-time member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ (EUCC) and served for many years by sending greeting cards to its members and participating in the Loaves & Fishes ministry. She also enjoyed her time with the SSU Golden Bears.

   On May 12, 1975, Josie married the love of her life, Paul Frantz Rein, Jr. at EUCC in Portsmouth. The couple was married for 65 years at the time of Paul’s death on March 17, 2023.

   “Jo” was a beloved aunt to many nephews and nieces, including Marjorie Keyes, Mary Heisler, Roy Heisler, Edwin Heisler, David Heisler, Judy Riley, Ted Herrmann, and Sue Finn.

   In addition to her parents and husband Paul, Jo was preceded in death by three siblings, Paul E. and Roy Heisler and Mary Agnes Herrmann; nephews, Ross Heisler and Jess Arnold Heisler; and nieces, Doris Reid and Debbie McCoy.

   Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Elder Ralph Clay officiating and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.

   The family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
