Mark "Tony" Moore Obituary

 

    Mark Anthony Moore, known as Tony to his family and friends, 60, of Portsmouth, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born August 30, 1960 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Shirley Ann Moore Langford.

   Tony retired after 15 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Ashland, KY facility and after serving 10 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. A proud veteran, he was awarded two Good Conduct Medals and the Rifle Marksman Medal. A member of the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion and VFW, Tony coached youth football and Notre Dame youth sports. He served as a Patient Advocate for DCI Dialysis in Portsmouth and had been a Concealed Carry instructor, prioritizing firearm safety. Tony attended Notre Dame High School, graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1978, and attended Living Faith Temple.

   Surviving Tony is his wife of 39 years, Rita Lorene Miller Moore, whom he married November 28, 1981 in Portsmouth. Also surviving are a son, Antoine D. (Jamie Carver) Moore of Portsmouth; two daughters, LaTawnda Moore of Gahanna and LaToya L. Moore of Columbus; seven siblings, Cheryl Thomas of Findlay, Lynda (Larry) McGinnis of Portsmouth, Freda Moore of Columbus, Jonathan (Rhonda) Langford of Pickerington, Tina Langford of Portsmouth, Kasandra Langford of Toledo and Willea (Patrick) White of Columbia, SC; two granddaughters, Olivia N. Moore and Cordelia Moore; many nieces, nephews and their families; many beloved friends; and a special fur baby, Annabelle.

   In addition to his mother, Tony was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Anthony Moore; and his maternal grandmother, Pauline D. Moore.

   Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Thursday at Christ’s Community Church with Bro. Darrin Miller officiating and interment in Soldier’s Circle within Greenlawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be performed by the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion Honor Detail. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

   The family will receive friends at the church from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour. Masks that cover both nose and mouth will be required at all times.

   Tony was given the gift of life when he became a kidney recipient. His family is exceptionally grateful for the extra years they had with him. They encourage all who are able to donate blood often and register as organ donors at www.organdonor.gov so that they may also share this precious gift.
