Mary Anne Workman Obituary

Mary Anne Workman, 82, passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, with her family by her side at her home in Portsmouth. She was born April 23, 1939 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Anne Marie Lawyer Arthurs.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and 1957 graduate of Notre Dame High School, she was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. Mary Anne also enjoyed bowling, poker with the girls, watching The Voice, Dave’s Doubles, Coke Classic and pancakes! She loved raising all of her children and the door was always open to their needs. It was said, “It’s always like a party when you’re at Mary Anne’s.” As she became more ill, she was not always able to enjoy these things, though her last spoken words were “pass out the plates.” She retired from SOMC after 20 years of service, the majority working as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor.

In addition to her parents, Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred Workman on October 5, 2004, and former husband, Richard H. Miller on August 30, 1987; and two stepsons, Scott and Steve Workman.

Surviving are six children, Chris (Doreen) Miller of Springboro, Lori A. (Jerry) Guinn of Stout, Joe Miller of Portsmouth, Jimmy Workman of Denver, CO, Amy (Rick) Slack of South Webster, Debbie (Steve) Gorin of Golden, CO and Melody (Al) Addasi of Pikeville, KY; three siblings, Nancy Enzie of Portsmouth, Jack (Sue) Arthurs of Westerville and Kate (Carlos) Guilliams of Portsmouth; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and their families; and her beloved cat, Boobers.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 A.M. at St Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Glockner officiating and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth on Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. Masks will be required at the funeral home for those who are unvaccinated to ensure the safety of all.

The family wish to express their gratitude to SOMC Hospice and all of Mary Anne’s private caregivers.

Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice, 2201-25th St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.
