Michael Joseph Carty, 70, of Portsmouth, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at his home. He was born on April 3, 1955, in Huntington, WV, to the late Robert Joseph and Floreine Mae Massie Carty.
Mike was a welder, having worked in Columbus, and he was a 1973 graduate of Portsmouth High School and the Scioto County Joint Vocational School. A disabled veteran, Mike served with the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the NAVMC Parachutist Insignia, the Rifle Expert Badge, and the Pistol Sharpshooter Badge.
Mike is survived by his brother, Robert Christopher (Lisa) Carty of New Holland, OH; three sisters, Robin A. Storey of Portsmouth, Suzanne M. Carty of Franklin, KY, and Jennifer L. (Ralph) Royce of Knoxville, TN; a brother-in-law, Arthur Brown of Little Rock, AR; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Brown.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, April 4, 2026, with Pastor Joe Bruch officiating. The James Dickey Post #23 American Legion will provide military honors.
The flag of the U.S. Marine Corps will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. Carty's service to our country.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
