Mitchell Mahogany Dickerson, Jr., 73, of Portsmouth, a longtime Columbus resident, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Portsmouth Health & Rehab. He was born August 24, 1949, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Ethel Verna (Matthews) and Mitchell Mahogany Dickerson, Sr.
A 1968 Portsmouth High School graduate, Mitchell attended the University of Cincinnati and earned a PhD in Education from the Ohio State University. While at OSU, he was served as president of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. Mitchell worked as a customer service representative of the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Surviving are two brothers, Gregory (Ester) Dickerson of Portsmouth and Norman (Roseann) Dickerson of Cincinnati; two sisters, Nancy Dickerson White and Greta Dickerson, both of Portsmouth; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, Mitchell was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Dickerson.
Private committal services will be held at Scioto Burial Park under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
