Norma Jean (Jarrells) Diles

   Norma Jean Diles, 82, of Chillicothe, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Westmoreland Nursing Home in Chillicothe. She was born December 11, 1939 in Harrison Twp. Scioto County, OH, a daughter of the late Walter Marion and Hazel Porter Jarrells.

   Jean was a 1957 graduate of Minford High School and of the Baptist faith. Along with her husband, Alva, she was co-owner of the former Christy’s, Big Top Malt Shop and Jim’s Dairyland. Jean had also worked as a cook for the Portsmouth City Schools.  Primarily a homemaker, she was a former Girl Scout leader, and she had a gift for doing crafts, ceramics and decorating. In her free time, Jean loved nothing more than working puzzles or being outside with a good book or working in her garden or flower bed.

   Her husband, Alva Emil “Sonny” Diles, preceded her in death on October 15, 2020. The couple was married January 31, 1959 in Minford.

   Surviving is her son, Paul Douglas (Christy) Diles, with whom she made her home; her daughter, Karyn Sue (Jack) Plybon of Chillicothe; one sister, Donna Sue Jordan of Minford; eight grandchildren, Akaisha Diles, Morgan Diles, Tiffany Greene, Crystal Vest, Brittney Robinette, Brandon Plybon, Corey Roberts and Krista Nichols; 11 great-grandchildren, Alivia Raynard, Maverick McRoberts, Anaiah Diles, Braxton Plybon, Brooklyn Greene, Breylyn Greene, Tyler Vest, Tayton Adkins, Abbi Vaughn, Natalie Robinette and Miracle Roberts; and one great-great-grandson, Waylon Vaughn.

   Jean was also preceded in death by four siblings, Richard Jarrells, Roy Jarrells, Ellen Marie Sieling and Phyllis Kay Bordan.

   Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Dennis Dawes, Minister officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
