Patricia Ann (Shump) Kalb

   Patricia Ann Kalb, 91, of Portsmouth, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Hill View. Ann was born on February 25, 1933, in Portsmouth, to the late Paul Orlando and Fredia Marie Ober Shump.

     A longtime cafeteria worker for the Portsmouth City Schools, Ann had also worked as a cashier at the former Big Bear in Rosemount. A 1951 Portsmouth West High School graduate, she was of the Presbyterian faith and had enjoyed her volunteer guild work for SOMC.  Ann loved her family most of all, but she especially enjoyed picnics at Roosevelt Lake, beach outings, shopping and travel. She also enjoyed the many years she spent with her husband as members of Shawnee Boat Club.

   Ann married Richard David Kalb on December 31, 1952, in Portsmouth, and the couple had been married for 55 years at the time of his death on December 7, 2008.

   Surviving are her two sons, James David (Allison) Kalb of Portsmouth and Bruce Wayne (Debbie) Kalb of Kannapolis, NC; six grandchildren, Jared (Dawn) Kalb, Heather (Chuck) Davis, J.D. Kalb, Natasha (Eric) Brooks and Heidi (Max) James; and six great-grandchildren, Abby, Renee, Seth, Cameron, Harvey and Vada.

   Ann was also preceded in death by four siblings, Leon, Michael and Tom Shump, and Lola Gibson.

   There are to be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home Portsmouth.
