Paul Frantz Rein, Jr.

   Paul Frantz Rein Jr., 90, of Portsmouth, died Friday, March 17, 2023, at Hill View Retirement Center with his loving wife of 65 years, Josie, by his side.

   Paul was born December 2, 1932 in Portsmouth to Paul F. & Gladys A. Hunter Rein. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1952 and enlisted in the US Army the same year. Paul was stationed in England and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was discharged from the military in 1954 and on May 12, 1957, he married Josie Marie Heisler in Portsmouth.

   Paul worked at the former Central Electric Company in Portsmouth and Aristech Chemical Company in Haverhill for many years. He was a longtime member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ where he served faithfully on the church council. Paul read his Bible daily and he and Josie enjoyed spending their retirement years participating with the Golden Bears at Shawnee State University.

   In addition to his beloved wife, Josie, Paul is survived by several nieces, nephews and their families.

   Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Tom Williams, Minister, officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

The James Dickey Post #23 American Legion will conduct military rites.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

   In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be sent in Paul’s memory to SOMC Hospice, 2201-25th St. Portsmouth, OH 45662 and Hill View Employees Gratuity Fund, 1610-28th St. Portsmouth, OH 45662.

   In honor of Mr. Rein’s service to our country, the flag of the US Army will fly at the funeral home.
