Phillip Ernest Staker

   Phillip Ernest Staker, 54, of Portsmouth, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at SOMC Hospice. He was born in Portsmouth on September 22, 1969, to the late Robert Harold and Louella B. Like Staker, Sr.

   Phil was a 1989 graduate of Portsmouth High School and a bit of a free spirit. He loved to ride his Harley-Davidson alongside his friends and start interesting businesses. He was the owner of the former Maple Grove Carry Out and Lou’s on the Run food truck. He also had a peanut-roasting business, supplying area pubs with delicious snacks.  Phil had worked as a deputy in the jail of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and, as a member of Temple Baptist Church, he had driven the church van, picking up parishioners for services. He received a commendation from the Nile Township Volunteer Fire Department “in appreciation for his heroic efforts to the residents of Nile Township during the March floods of 1997”.

   Surviving are his sisters, Dr. Rebecca Staker-Appleton (Dr. Martin Appleton) of Proctorville and Martha Staker-Kirk (Wade) of Ironton; and brother, Robert H. (Debra) Staker, Jr. of Portsmouth; many nieces, nephews and their families; best friends, Adrian ‘Junior’ Henderson and Sandy & Eric Boyd; his fur baby, Waylon; as well as the many friends with whom Phil rode motorcycles.

   In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his longtime girlfriend, Sandy Reynolds.

   Funeral services with Facebook Livestream will be held at 2 P.M. Friday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. John Gowdy officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park. To view the livestream, please visit the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home Facebook page.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the funeral hour on Friday.
