Ray Carrington, 75, of Portsmouth, passed away at home on Friday, June 26, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born January 9, 1951, in Vanceburg, KY, he was the son of the late Edgar Junior and Mary Coleen Harris Carrington.
Ray served in the Army from 1974 to 1976 and was awarded the Marksmanship Qualification Badge for Rifle. He retired from Wheelersburg Schools after 15 years as a custodian and had previously worked for CSX Railroad for 18 years. He enjoyed watching westerns, loved horses, and cherished time with his wife and grandchildren. Ray attended Sacred Mission Church in Wheelersburg.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Delores Mollett Carrington. They were married in Portsmouth on September 20, 1996.
He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Melinda (Ronnie) Stoneking of Wheelersburg and Stephanie (Joe) Fisher of Franklin Furnace; a sister, Doris Payton of Portsmouth; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Redd.
A memorial service with military rites will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
