Rodney Harold Neace, 75, of Portsmouth, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born on February 11, 1948, in Chavies, KY, the son of the late Chead and Eliza Bush Neace.
Rodney was a member of the United Steelworkers Local #5035 and he retired after 24 years working as a steelworker from the former Dayton-Walther Corp. in Portsmouth. He was of the Apostolic faith, and he formerly served as Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed playing billiards and was known as a pool shark in his younger years. He also loved sports and especially enjoyed following UK teams.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eydie Burton Neace. The couple married in Greenup, KY on September 16, 1972.
Also surviving is his son, David (Amy) Neace of Portsmouth; two granddaughters, Maddi Wright and Jayla Whitley; three brothers, Robert Eugene (Joyce) Neace of Newport, KY, Jack (Donna) Neace of Wilder, KY, and James Steven Neace of Ft. Thomas, KY; a sister, Elizabeth “Libby” (Mike) Jones of Ft. Thomas, KY; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Rodney was also preceded in death by eight siblings, Frank Finley Neace, Matt Neace, Sam Neace, Willard Dean Neace, Harlan “Chico” Neace, Juanita Jackson, Bobbie Jean Russ and Carolyn Neace.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastors Ryan Hunt, Chuck Holsinger and Randy Schintzius officiating and interment in Mershon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the funeral hour on Saturday.
