Rosalie J. Dransfield, 91, of Rosemount, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, at Hill View Health Care in Portsmouth. She was born to the late Alfred Gilbert and Alpha Ann (Cobb) Johnson on April 8, 1930 in Hugheston, WV.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, Rosalie received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery in 1952. She taught in West Virginia and Portsmouth-area schools for several years and later worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for RSVP
Her husband, Herman Gray Dransfield, preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1987. The couple was married Nov. 22, 1952 in Hugheston.
Surviving is her son, Steven Douglas Dransfield of Orange Co., CA; three daughters, Jan Ellen VandeVelde of Gainesville, GA, Betsy Jo (John) Torrez of Houston, TX and Melody “Joy” Dransfield, with whom she made her home; one grandson, Blake VandeVelde; and one great-grandson, Atticus VandeVelde.
Rosalie was also preceded in death by 14 siblings.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rosalie’s name to First Presbyterian Church, 221 Court St., Portsmouth, OH 45662 and the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
