Sharon Lee “Sherri” Green, 72, of Rosemount, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at her home. She was born November 16, 1951, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Lawrence Alvin “Cookie” and Lorraine Alta Gowdy Cook.
Sherri was a 1970 Portsmouth High School graduate and she was a very proud CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult). She had worked as an interpreter all of her adult life and had achieved the National Association for the Deaf’s Level 5 rating, the highest available. Sherri had interpreted for two US presidents. She retired after 22 years with the Deaf Service Center, and enjoyed precious time with her family and fun at the casinos in her retirement.
Sherri married Charles Raymond Green in Dillon, SC, on December 10, 1977, and the couple had been married for 33 years at the time of Charlie’s passing on September 23, 2010.
Surviving is her daughter, Lori Brooks (Paul Gilliland) Green of Columbus; granddaughter, Keira Rose Gilliland; brother, Bill (Lois Fenton) Cook of Portsmouth; sister, Susie Cook of Portsmouth; best friend and sister-in-law, Mary Green of Portsmouth; brother-in-law, Bill Payton of Columbus, GA; Sister-in-law, Donna (Dennis) Ramey of Wheelersburg; special friends and neighbors, Cody, Sheena and Zayne Ervin; several nieces, nephews and their families; and her beloved dog, Fuzzy.
Sherri was also preceded in death by her sister, Judy Rowson, and her brother-in-law, John Rowson.
There are to be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
