Shirley Arlene (Alexander) Conklin

  Shirley Arlene Conklin, 87, of Charlotte, NC, a longtime Portsmouth resident, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, in Huntersville, NC. Shirley was born July 28, 1935, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Dorothy Marie (Moss) and James Woodrow Alexander.

   A 1953 Clay High School graduate, she was a member of the Clay Alumni Association. Shirley had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church when in Portsmouth, and was currently a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church - North Campus in Concord. She was retired from Glockner Auto Sales where she had worked as a secretary.

   On September 7, 1957, Shirley married Boyd Eugene “Gene” Conklin in Portsmouth. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2009.

   Surviving is her daughter, Gina Dawn Tobin of Concord; and three grandchildren, Keelyenne Shae Tobin, Timothy Luke Tobin and Maire Moss Tobin.

   Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Don Noel officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park.

   The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M.  and one hour prior to services Monday.
