Obituary

Terry Russell Stevenson, Sr. 73, of Sciotoville, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by family. He was born November 2, 1949, in Portsmouth, the son of the late Rachel Leona Stevenson.

Terry retired as a construction superintendent from the former Steven’s Construction, where he worked for more than 20 years. He was a very talented musician who played many instruments in area bands over the years. He liked to buy, sell and trade guitars, and he was the ultimate Cincinnati Reds fan. Terry was truly enjoying the Reds current winning streak and is now cheering the team on in Heaven.

He was also an incredible jokester and loved to make people laugh, but his favorite job of all was being a stay-at-home Pappaw. He relished time spent with family and was dearly loved by his extended family. Terry was a member of the former First Lutheran Church where he served on church council, and a current member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Western Sun Masonic Lodge Free & Accepted Masons and Carpenters Union Local 437.

Surviving is his wife, Virginia Lynne “Ginger” Scott Stevenson, whom he married May 16, 1969, in Portsmouth; his daughter, Jodi L. (Derek) Keaton of Baton Rouge, LA; his son, Terry R. (Lacy) Stevenson II of Wheelersburg; four grandchildren, Kamryn, Baleigh, Olyvia and Grant; two great-grandsons, Cayge Jaxon and Pierson Kai; a brother, David Stevenson of Portsmouth; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to his mother, Terry was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Stevenson.

Graveside services will be held at 4 P.M. Monday, July 24, at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Brad Howerton officiating. Those who wish to go in procession to the cemetery may gather at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth between 3 P.M. and 3:30 P.M. on Monday.
