Thelma Jean (Richey) Hamilton

 Thelma Jean Hamilton, 96, of Portsmouth, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Hill View Health Care surrounded by family. Jean was born September 13, 1927, in Columbus, the daughter of the late James Allen and Lela Orlena Davis Richey.

   Jean was a 1945 graduate of Portsmouth High School and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

   On October 12, 1946, Jean married Robert Lee Hamilton in Portsmouth.  The couple was married for 54 years at the time of his death on July 22, 2001.

   Surviving are her two sons, James Lee Hamilton of The Villages, FL and Rickey Lee (Deborah) Hamilton of Chillicothe; her former daughter-in-law, Peggy Hamilton of Belpre; six grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Hamilton, Jeremy (Abigail) Hamilton, Elizabeth (Matt) Cheuvront, Justin Hamilton, Nathan (Jennifer) Hamilton and Rachel (Reagan) Ammons; nine great-grandchildren, Cole (Shelby) Hamilton, Carlie, Carson, Robbie, and  Alex Hamilton, Emily and Jacob Cheuvront, Joshua Bird Hamilton and Evelyn Briseis Ammons; one great-great-grandson, Oliver James Hamilton; and three special nieces, Marrianne Foster, Karen Balogh and Sharon Danzer.

   Jean was also preceded in death by two siblings, David Richey and Joan Hughes.

   Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Jason Hamilton officiating and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M. until the funeral hour.
