Umberto Johncarlos “Bert” Milani, 72, of Portsmouth, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 in Portsmouth. He was born June 7, 1945 in Rome, Italy to the late Luigi Milani and Rosa D’Arcangeli Milani Kirkendoll.
Bert was retired from OSCO where he was the set-up machine operator in the mold department and former Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics & Allied Workers Union chairman. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and an OHSAA football official for more than 30 years. Bert served as a Vietnam War Marine Corps Corporal where he earned the Vietnamese Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. A member and trustee of the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion, he enjoyed boating and was a member of Shawnee Boat Club,
He was preceded in death November 22, 2013 by his wife Carla Callari Milani, whom he married June 3, 1967 in Arcinazzo, Rome.
Surviving are three sons, Gino Milani, Robert Milani and Tony Milani, all of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Jacob, Gabriel, Hannah and Isaac Milani; a half-brother, Andrew Kirkendoll of Winterhaven, FL; two sisters, Anna (Joe) Adkins of Wheelersburg and Alba (Randy) Chamblin of Portsmouth; his companion, Sandy Lewis of Portsmouth; and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. Joseph Yokum officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth where a recitation of the Rosary will be held at 8 p.m.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the James Dickey Honor Detail at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In honor of Mr. Milani’s service to our country, the flag of the Marine Corps will fly at the funeral home.
