Shirlene Mae Burkhardt, 85, of Portsmouth, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born November 14, 1932 in West Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Louis Sherley and Madge Evalena Ryland Miler.
Shirlene was a homemaker and a Protestant. She enjoyed working the holidays at the former Wolff and Copy Cat clothing stores. Along with her husband, she was a longtime member of the Shawnee Boat Club, where she was known by all as “Hanner”, and they spent many hours volunteering at the James Dickey Post American Legion where Shirlene was a former auxiliary member.
Her husband, Ralph Frederick “Pete” Burkhardt, whom she married November 18, 1950, preceded her in death August 20, 1996.
Surviving are four sons, Ralph Daniel “Dan” (Sheree) Burkhardt of South Webster, Ron (Carol) Burkhardt of Cleveland, Brian (Julie) Burkhardt of Portsmouth, and Bruce (Sheryl) Burkhardt of Columbus; five grandchildren, Amy (Ronald) Wagner of South Webster, Ronnie (Connie) Burkhardt and Chrissy Burkhardt, all of Seattle, WA, and Bruce (Emily) Burkhardt, Jr. and Danielle Burkhardt, all of Columbus; and five great-grandchildren, Hunter Wagner, Bailee and Liam Burkhardt, Cameron and Maci.
Shirlene was also preceded in death by one son, Stewart Louis Burkhardt; and two siblings, Bruce Miler and Ruth Ann Rose.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, October 31 at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Minister Al Oliver officiating. Private interment services will follow.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
