Jean Hazel (Cunningham) Schoonover

   Jean Hazel Schoonover, 101, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born August 22, 1921, in Portsmouth, the only daughter of the late Clarence and Louisa Anna Massa Cunningham.

   Jean was a longtime member of Second Presbyterian Church and she had worked at the former Herms Floral Co. for 44 years. She had been a member of the Portsmouth BPW while working at Herms and she was a 1941 graduate of Portsmouth High School.

   She married Joseph Paul Schoonover in August 1982, in Portsmouth, and he preceded her in death September 18, 2000, after 18 years of marriage.

   Surviving are 11 nieces, nephews and their families, Jane & Jack Jennings, with whom she made her home, Gary Cunningham of McDermott, Barbara Rickman of Portsmouth, Karen Oliver of Columbus, Steve Cunningham of Portsmouth, Mark Cunningham of Circleville, Mike Cunningham of Australia, Bill Schoonover and Elaine Apodaca, both of Portsmouth, Bob Schoonover of Blacklick and Dr. Jeannie Schoonover of Columbus.

  Jean was also preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Jack, Walter, Albert and Homer Cunningham.

   Private services will be held under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
