   Larry Wade Gray, 68, of Rosemount, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at the James Cancer Center in Columbus. He was born March 14, 1949 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Taylor Wade Gray and Ella Juanita Lintz Gray of Wheelersburg, who survives.

   Larry retired as captain after 27 years of service with the Portsmouth Police Department and he was a special investigator for the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having earned the National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Bars, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

   A 1967 graduate of Valley High School, Larry attended High Praises Church of God and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #33. He was a former member and president of local bowling leagues and an avid golfer.

   Larry is also survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann Broughton Gray, whom he married September 12, 1970 in Portsmouth; two sons, Jonathan (Sharon) Gray of Rosemount and Nathaniel (Tiffany) Gray of Portsmouth; siblings, Steven (Susan) Gray and Vicki (Donald) Smith, all of Clarktown; and several nieces, nephews and their families.

   In addition to his father, his in-laws, Leonard and Edith Broughton, also preceded Larry in death.

   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at High Praises Church of God on Harrisonville Avenue in New Boston with Rev. Sam Salyers officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. The American Legion James Dickey Post 23 Honor Detail will conduct military graveside services.

   The family will receive friends at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.

   The flag of the U.S. Army will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. Gray’s service to our country.
