Michael Andrew Bratton, 44, a former Portsmouth resident, passed away at his home in Hutto, TX. He was born April 27, 1973 in Alexandria, VA, a son of Travis Wayne Bratton and Teresa Ann Hosey Bratton.
Michael was employed by Dell in Round Rock, TX where he managed the company’s government contracts. He grew up in Central Presbyterian Church and was a 1991 Portsmouth High School graduate. He received a Bachelor of Music Education from Ohio University in 1996. A gifted musician, Michael was a member of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity at OU, as well as the OU Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra. While in college, he taught two summers at a camp for sports and the arts in the Pocono Mountains. He also competed with the Mirage Drum & Bugle Corp. based in Dayton, OH and was a member of the Smashed Tomatoes band while in high school. Michael appeared as an extra in several episodes of Friday Night Lights.
Surviving is his mother, Teresa Ann Hosey Bratton of Portsmouth and father, Travis Wayne (Mary Fike) Bratton of Stout; brother, Ryan Bratton of Portsmouth; his maternal grandmother, Virginia Hosey of Portsmouth; a special brother, Ladd Dunham of Portsmouth; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 16 at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Tom Charles officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In honor of Michael’s love of his alma mater, the flag of the Ohio University Bobcats will fly at the funeral home.
