Gary Lee Goodman

   Gary Lee Goodman, 82, of Wheelersburg, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the SOMC Hospice Center. He was born October 8, 1934 in New Boston, a son of the late John Edward and Kelsie Unice Sloan Goodman.

   Gary was retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #18 in Columbus and a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God. He was an Army veteran and a former referee for football and basketball. He was also a gifted woodworker. A 1954 Portsmouth High School graduate, Gary was the captain of the undefeated 1953 PHS football team.

   His wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Marie Strayer Goodman, whom he married in Portsmouth on February 18, 1961 preceded him in death July 20, 2010.

   Surviving are three children, Brian Lee (Ericka) Goodman of Sciotoville, Kelsie Deloras Brooks of Shelby, and Danny Lee (Kimberly) Goodman of Hamilton; two sisters, Barbara Wallace of New Port Richey, FL and Marguerite “Peggy” Lute of McDermott; a half-brother, Eddie Goodman of Columbus; a half-sister, Brenda Goodman Riffe of Orange Beach, AL; a brother-in-law, Jesse Johnson of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

   He was also preceded in death by siblings Johnny Edward Goodman and Dorothy Johnson.

   At his request, there are to be no services.

   Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home  in Portsmouth.
