Roy Harold O'Doherty

   Roy Harold O’Doherty, 97, of Portsmouth, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at SOMC. He was born November 11, 1920 in Friendship, Ohio, a son of the late Walter Preston and Schrilda Comfort Gill O’Doherty.

     Roy was a member of Central Church of Christ and a 1941 Portsmouth High School graduate. He also graduated from the former Portsmouth Interstate Business College. A World War II Army-Air Corps veteran, Roy received the American Theater Service Medal with one service stripe, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He retired from the former R.P. Bower & Son Co. where he worked as an accountant and radiator repairman for 40 years.

   His wife, Rosamond Violet Boldman O’Doherty, preceded him in death on February 28, 2016. They were married in Sciotoville on April 4, 1942.

   Surviving are his son, Roy Lynn “Mike” (Camilla) O’Doherty of Novi, MI; his son-in-law, Ray Horsley of Portsmouth; special family friend, Alice Lynn Neal; special nieces, Terri Boldman and Bev Merideth; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

   He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Carole Horsley; and siblings, George O’Doherty, Everett O’Doherty and Nettie Louise Casey.

   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Dennis Dawes, minister, officiating and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Military graveside services will be conducted by the James Dickey Post #23 Honor Detail.

   The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the funeral home Tuesday,

   The flag of the U.S. Army will fly at the funeral home in honor of Mr. O’Doherty’s service to our country.
